Dubai’s Emirates Airlines intends to do more marketing campaigns featuring Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston, it was revealed on Sunday.
Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group, told reporters at the Dubai Airshow: “We have more in store [with Aniston] – assuming there is the right script.”
He also confirmed reports that the airline paid the ‘Friends’ star $5 million for her appearance in the latest Emirates advert, unveiled in October.
The advert features the actress onboard an aircraft looking for the shower facilities. Cabin crew inform her there are no showers or bar on the aircraft and Aniston is seen looking confused.
The clip then cuts to Aniston waking from the “nightmare” in her First Class Emirates cabin. She sips on a drink and asks a cabin attendant if there is any way the plane could circle around for another hour.
Amid the ongoing battle between Gulf and US carriers over alleged subsidies and unfair competition, Sheikh Ahmed was asked by reporters which US carrier the “inferior” airline in the advert represented.
He laughed and said: “We don’t target airlines, we target people. If [any US carrier] thinks that they were targeted in the advert, that is their [problem].”
The advert was part of a $20 million global marketing campaign – of which Sheikh Ahmed hinted Aniston would continue to play a role.
