Qatar’s Ministry of Labour has instructed private companies operating in the country to provide details of all salaries paid to their workers on a monthly basis, local media reports.
According to the Peninsula, firms are being encouraged to transfer employees’ wages into their bank account to ensure swift and regular payments.
Workers who have not been paid will be quickly identified and the necessary steps taken, officials told the paper.
“We will be able to analyse salary payment details in no time since everything will be computerised,” said a senior ministry official.
The ministry said it has a database containing information on the workforce of each company operating in the country.
The move is similar to the wage protection system introduced by the UAE government last year. The system, developed by the UAE Central Bank, is an electronic payment initiative that aims to safeguard workers’ wages. Salaries are paid directly into licenced banks and regulated by the government to ensure payment is made on time with no incorrect deductions.
