A man claiming to be a member of the Saudi royal family is being questioned by police over the death of a 32-year-old Saudi man in a luxury London hotel.The 30-year-old suspect was arrested after the body was discovered in a suite of the five-star Landmark Hotel, Marylebone, police said.
Officers were called to the scene just before 5pm on Monday. Paramedics pronounced the Saudi man dead at the scene.
The victim, who police believe they have identified, had suffered head injuries.
The suspect was later taken in for questioning and remains in police custody. He is thought to have told officers he is a cousin of King Abdullah, and a prince in the Saudi royal family.
The death is being “treated as suspicious and is being investigated,” London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
“Police were called to reports of the body of a man found in a third-floor room at a hotel in Marylebone Road, NW1 at 16:50hrs on Monday 15 February,” the statement said.
“Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service attended the address and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Enquiries to trace the victim’s family are underway, the statement added.
Rooms at the Grade IIl-listed Landmark Hotel start from £400 a night. The property is popular with celebrities, counting Justin Timberlake and former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher among its guests.
