Many professionals in the Middle East and North Africa region are considering to change their career path completely, a new survey revealed, in hopes to finding their real passion.

Over seven in 10 respondents in the survey conducted by UAE jobs portal Bayt.com said they might resign their current jobs, with finding their “real passion” emerging as the top reason.

Around 42 percent of the surveyed professionals said it’s easy to change jobs in the MENA region.

The survey found that only 18 percent of respondents may change careers based on salary.

“Our latest survey highlights the factors defining career journeys in the Middle East during a disruptive time, including employee expectations, personal goals and financial expectations,” Ola Haddad, director of human resources at Bayt.com, said.

Surveying more than 3,000 people across the region, Bayt.com found that when changing jobs, transferring skills and relevant experience was the biggest challenge.

Around 30 percent think that “it doesn’t matter” how long you stay in one job before moving to a new one.

Resignations have been increasingly common in recent years, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic that has upended the way people live and work.

Called the Great Resignation, the phenomenon saw a record number of people leaving their jobs since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

Consultancy firm PwC earlier found that one in five workers globally were planning to quit this year. Its difference with the region is the reason – majority of the global respondents, at 52,000 in 44 countries, cited pay is a key reason.
