Seven out of 10 employers in the UAE are planning to hire new employees next year, a new survey showed.

The top roles that the employers will be hiring for in the next three months include sales executive, accountant, and administrative assistant.

In terms of industry, companies in management consulting claimed to be hiring the most, the joint Middle East Job Index Survey between Bayt.com and YouGov, showed, followed by firms in retail and consumer goods.

“There is a tremendous need for skilled workers in the private sector, as multinational companies continue to demonstrate a higher probability for hiring in the MENA region,” Zafar Shah, research director at YouGov, said in a statement.

According to the survey, around 50 percent of the companies planning to hire in the next three months will do for a maximum of five roles, while 25 percent said they will be hiring for about six to 10 jobs.

Employers will specifically look for good communication skills in Arabic and English among candidates, the survey showed, but soft skills such as being a team player, leadership abilities, and the ability to work under the pressure are also considered important qualifications.

“While professionals need to focus on honing skills in demand such as communication and collaboration, companies need to provide access routes for those who lack skills, take steps to strengthen the capabilities of skilled employees, and commit to constant upskilling,” Ola Haddad, director of human resources at Bayt.com, said.

The survey collected responses online from June 9 to August 1 from 889 respondents across the region, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
