UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced a series of improvements approved by the UAE Cabinet, as part of the back-to-school policy including flexible working hours for some employees.
The initiative aims to improve the quality of life of employees, and improve levels of job satisfaction and happiness.
Hundreds of students across the country will begin the new school year next week as the summer break comes to an end.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources issued a special circular on Thursday announcing a “Back to School” policy, which will allow employees to accompany their children to and from academic institutions. The announcement came just prior to the resumption of school, with the new term scheduled to begin on Monday.
Flexible work hours for parents
Parents who are federal government employees will be granted flexibility in work hours on the first day of school which is set to begin next week for most children. Additionally, parents of kindergarten children will be granted flexibility for the first week of school.
The circular details a three-hour flexibility to manage drop-off and pick-up. Employees have the option to use this three-hour window in sections or as a whole, and can be used in accordance with regulations and approvals from direct managers.
The flexible work hours have been established in a manner that ensures minimal disruption to work processes and services offered by the organisation, all while adhering to the human resources regulations set by the federal government.
Flexibility on the first school day is limited to a total of three hours to accompany children to and from school.
Flexibility for the school week for parents of children in nursery and kindergarten should not exceed a total of three hours daily.
Additionally, employees are also offered flexibility for other school-related events during the academic year such as graduation, meetings, events and activities.
