UAE leadership change: Full details revealed

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has appointed Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed as Vice President and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed as Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, following a series of appointments.

Sheikh Mansour will now served alongside Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

In addition, Sheikh Mohamed also named Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed and Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed as Abu Dhabi’s Deputy Rulers.

According to a statement by WAM, Sheikh Mohamed made the vice presidential appointment as Head of State, following the “approval of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, to appoint Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Minister of Presidential Court, as UAE Vice President, alongside His Highness Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai”.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed is also best known internationally as the owner of Manchester City Football Club.

Sheikh Mansour, who was born in Abu Dhabi in 1970, pursued his Bachelor’s degree in International Relations in the United States and received his degree in 1993.

Sheikh Mansour held significant roles in both politics and business, including serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court. He also oversaw important changes as chairman of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, specifically in the areas of civil, family, and personal status laws that have resulted in the separation of expatriates from the Sharia-based legal system. Additionally, he has been leading the Emiratisation program in his role as head of the Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council.

Sheikh Khaled, who is the UAE President’s eldest son, has also held important roles in the Abu Dhabi government, such as being a member of the Executive Council and the Chairman of the Executive Office.

During his tenure, he has been responsible for managing various significant development projects in the emirate and has also played a key role in the success of the startup incubator, Hub71.

Another influential member of the UAE government is Sheikh Tahnoun, who serves as the National Security Adviser and holds senior positions in some of the emirate’s largest state-affiliated companies.

Sheikh Hazza, who is the Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, also has multiple responsibilities across the government, sports organisations, and business ventures.

UAE President restructures the Abu Dhabi Executive Council

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued an Emiri decree on Wednesday to restructure the Abu Dhabi Executive Council.

As the ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed has appointed Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, as chairman of the Council.

Other members include Dr Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office and the Strategic Affairs Council as well as Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority and Strategic Affairs Council.

Jassem Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Finance and the Strategic Affairs Council, Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, and Awaidha Al Marar, Chairman of the Department of Energy, were also made member of the council.

In addition, Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), Major General Faris Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, and Sara Musallam, Chairwoman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, also had their positions confirmed.

Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport and Ahmed Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development also joined the Council.

Mansoor Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health, and Ahmed Al Kuttab, Chairman of the Department of Government Support, were also confirmed in the Council.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has lauded the new appointments by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed by calling it a significant move in the nation’s development journey.

“I congratulate my brother Sheikh Hazza, Sheikh Tahnoun, Sheikh Mansour and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed,” Sheikh Mohammed said, adding “in you and your brothers, the leaders of the new generation, the march continues.”

Other UAE rulers also offered their congratulations to the newly appointed members. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, “wished Sheikh Khaled success in leading the emirate of Abu Dhabi to advanced positions in all fields and further prosperity,” according to WAM.

He also congratulated Sheikh Tahnoun and Sheikh Hazza on their new roles.

In addition, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah congratulated Sheikh Mansour, Sheikh Khaled, Sheikh Tahnoun and Sheikh Hazza.

Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, and Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman, also commended the new members.
