Emirates will commence its Iftar service for passengers during Ramadan on May 27, it announced on Wednesday.
Special Ifar meals will be available to passengers in all cabin classes on select Emirates flights, including flights to and from the Gulf as well as on flights catering to Umrah pilgrim groups travelling to Jeddah and Medina during the Holy Month.
The Iftar boxes feature an Arabesque design inspired by the region. Although the meals are designed to cater to a global taste, they feature Middle Eastern snacks such as za’atar chicken with hummus, spinach fatayer, halloumi cheese and cucumber sandwiches, and traditional sweets such as maamoul, yogurt and dates.
Menus will be refreshed mid-Ramadan, Emirates said.
In addition, trays of dates and water will be provided at boarding gates for passengers wishing to break their fast prior to boarding.
During the Holy Month, cold meals will be served in lieu of a hot one on all flights to Jeddah and Medina, including Umrah day flights.
The Emirates Iftar service has been provided for more tha 20 years. The airline uses a tool that calculates exact timings for Imsak and Iftar using the aircraft’s longtitude, latitude and altitude.
The aircraft’s captain will inform passengers of the Iftar time as sundown approaches.
