A Saudi policeman was shot dead and two others were injured in an attack in the kingdom’s Eastern Province, the Interior Ministry has confirmed, according to Saudi Gazette.
Two men have been arrested on allegations they attacked the security patrol in Al Jesh village of Qatif district, in the Shia-dominated region, late on Tuesday.
“The motive of the crime is not clear yet, and we are waiting for the investigation results,” an Interior Ministry spokesman said.
The region, which has historically been threatened by sectarian tensions, has experienced several attacks in the past year.
Authorities have blamed ISIL.
On successive Fridays in May, suicide bombings at mosques in the Eastern Province killed dozens of people. A single attack in Qatif killed 25 people, local media reported.
