UAE-based Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) has announced it has been awarded a contract by Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre for the construction of the first phase of the Fakeeh Academic Medical Centre in Dubai.

The contract for the smart hospital is worth AED468 million ($127.4 million) and will be built at the integrated free zone park at Dubai Silicon Oasis in Dubai, the company said in a statement.

A state-of-the-art medical university is planned in the second phase of development, it said, adding that project works will start immediately with completion expected in October 2017.

HLG CEO and managing director, José A López-Monís, said the medical facility will comprise five centres of excellence that specialise in diabetes and endocrinology, muscles, bones and joints, emergency medicine, pulmonary medicine and cardiology.

It will offer robotic surgery and feature an automated medication dispensing system.

The scope of works includes the construction of a 150-bed smart hospital and the installation of the medical equipment and the loose furniture. It also includes the structural works, the architectural and civil works, the mechanical, plumbing and electrical works and the final testing, commissioning and cleaning.

López-Monís added: “This is an important award for the Group and an opportunity for HLG to deliver this distinctive and high-profile project to a significant client.”
