Panasonic is planning to launch a full range of e.cam digital video cameras at this year’s Gitex show in Dubai. The firm’s flagship release will be the NV-GS400, a 3CCD digital video camera that can record still images at a resolution of four-megapixels, which Panasonic claims is the highest resolution in the industry for such a device.
“The e.cam digital video camera line-up is one of Panasonic’s best selling product categories in the Middle East region,” said Koji Naka, manager, consumer products, Panasonic Marketing Middle East FZE. “With the introduction of the new range, including the NV-GS400, we are confident of maintaining our leading position in this category. The new models are stylish and compact enough to fit easily into the palm of the hand, while their unique features and state-of-the-art technology make them some of the smallest video cameras to hold such advanced technical capabilities.”
Aimed at home video enthusiasts and semi-professional users alike, the NV-GS400’s 3CCD system uses a separate CCD to process each of the three primary light components (red, green and blue). Panasonic claims the camera’s picture quality is further enhanced by the Leica Dicomar lens, specially developed by Panasonic and Leica. This 12x optical zoom lens uses an advanced optical technology and is complemented by Panasonic’s Crystal Engine, image-processing circuitry that helps deliver maximum performance from the 3CCD system.
The e.cam allows users to simultaneously record full motion video and 1.2-megapixel still images onto an SD Memory Card without having to switch between recording modes. The LCD display meanwhile opens out to 120-degrees for easier viewing, and the camera’s Power LCD button instantly doubles the monitor’s brightness for easy visibility on sunny days.
The other new models in Panasonic’s e-cam digital video camera line-up, also due to be launched at Gitex, include the NV-GS200 and NV-GS120, NV-GS55, NV-GS33, NV-GS15 and NV-GS11. Each new model features Panasonic’s new Direct Mode Dial, whereby a single dial gives users a centralised switching control over most major operations, and Wide Open LCD features.
Earlier this summer, Panasonic updated its digital camera range with the launch of three new still ‘Lumix’ models. In unveiling its new models, Panasonic claimed to be the first consumer electronics company to offer buyers Leica DC lenses in its digital cameras.
