Sharjah

The Sharjah Prize in Public Finance has announced increasing the number of categories for awards to 17 in this year’s edition.

The award categories in the second edition will include 9 institutional categories and 8 individual categories, according to Salem Youssef Al-Qaseer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sharjah Prize in Public Finance, billed as the first of its kind in the Arab world.

The move to expand the number of categories followed a surge in the turnout for participation.

The award format has also been reworked to include additional technical and organisational conditions and criteria in line with the current financial and economic changes and challenges.

The award is instituted to recognise institutions creating and consolidating a qualitative shift in the performance, results and services of public finances in government agencies and institutions in the Arab region to reach a world-leading level.

The award seeks to achieve a package of objectives to encourage the optimal utilisation of financial resources by using the best financial and administrative systems and government budgets to achieve sustainable development, principles of transparency, accountability and governance.

The second edition of the award will include institutional and individual categories, concerned with enabling the financial sector to be a successful and sustainable lever for development in the Arab countries.

The institutional categories will include public finance organisations in electronic financial systems and applications, management of financial projects, financial innovation and cash management and sovereign funds, while the individual categories will include distinguished Arab financial manager, distinguished Arab budget manager and distinguished Arab tax manager.
