The UAE weather bureau has denied claims that its cloud seeding program was responsible for the recent heavy rainfall that caused widespread flooding in the country.
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed on Wednesday that no cloud seeding missions were conducted during the torrential rain on Tuesday, according to local reports.
UAE cloud seeding does not take place during severe weather events

“The NCM didn’t conduct any seeding operations during this event,” the NCM said in statement responding to speculations on social media and other news reports, which attributed comments to an NCM forecaster suggesting cloud seeding in the UAE had occurred.
The NCM further explained that one of the “basic principles” of cloud seeding is that it is conducted during the early stages of cloud formation and not during severe weather events.
The safety of personnel, pilots, and aircraft is of utmost importance, and the NCM does not conduct cloud seeding operations during extreme weather conditions, the statement reportedly said.
