Dubai Police will start charging for some services under a new resolution approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Executive Council, it was announced on Monday.

The new resolution aims to enable Dubai Police to further develop and enhance services provided to its customers, according to a statement.

It stipulates that Dubai Police can charge for services including the transport of vehicles and motorbikes from one place to another in the emirate and moving vehicles, cranes, containers and other similar vehicles off the road.

The resolution further outlines newly introduced fees for services such as issuing certificates and permits as well as inspecting traffic accident sites, the statement issued by Dubai Media Office added.

It did not give specific values to the fees that will be imposed.

GCC countries, including the UAE, have been forced to re-examine its revenue streams and subsidy policies as a new era of cheap oil prices continues.

The region’s second biggest economy, the UAE, is expected to fare better because it has stronger government finances and a diversified business landscape which relies less on oil.

The UAE is expected to expand 3.0 percent this year, slowing only moderately from an estimated 3.3 percent last year.
