Dubai’s Atlantis The Palm is promising the “biggest fireworks display in the world” this New Year’s Eve as it rings in 2014 and celebrates the emirate’s Expo2020 win.
“There’s only one place to be to experience the greatest celebration on earth,” the famous hotel said in a statement on Thursday.
It also announced the return of its New Year’s Eve Royal Gala Dinner with the promise of “unprecedented midnight fireworks under the stars, guaranteed to mesmerise guests from across the globe”.
The $1.5b resort hosted the most expensive launch party in history, spending a rumoured $40m, when it opened in 2008. The fireworks display of one million fireworks – almost 10 times the scale of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony – was said to cost $3m alone.
However, soon after the hotel was forced to lay off staff amid the global economic slowdown.
Atlantis said all of its 21 restaurants, bars and clubs would bring in the 2014 New Year.
The venue would also host a line up of acts for its New Year’s Eve Sandance music festival, including Swedish House Mafia’s DJ Axwell, a driving force behind chart hits Don’t You Worry Child, In My Mind and Save the World, Emeli Sande and Paul Oakenfold.
“Winning the bid to host World Expo 2020 gives Atlantis, The Palm, a perfect reason to bring in the New Year with a bang, and this year, our fireworks display is set to be the biggest the world has ever seen- twice the size of our launch,” said Serge Zaalof, President and Managing Director of Atlantis, The Palm.
“Guests will enjoy a range of experiences throughout our 21 restaurants, bars and clubs, as well as two incredible entertainment events and, of course, the world’s most talked about firework displays, covered in over 30 countries.”
In other elements of the New Year festivities, the hotel said diners at the Gala Dinner would enjoy “an elegant outdoor dining experience, live entertainment and awe-inspiring views of the resort’s impressive fireworks, on a beautiful 1.4km beach setting”.
Atlantis restaurants will also provide ‘Gold’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Bronze’ set menu options for bigger families, while couples can celebrate in a more intimate environment at Ossiano. Kids Club and Club Rush will also host a NYE Party.
