Dubai Water Canal will feature a waterfall on the Sheikh Zayed Road bridge, on the side Al Habtoor City.
Made up of 80 water pumps, the waterfall switches off when boats travelling on the canal approach the bridge.
Water was released in the Dubai Water Canal for the first time last week, in what was the most significant development in a three-year project that’s seen three new bridges open and a path dug from Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf.
That first release was part of a testing process, with more and more to slowly make its way into the 3km stretch over the coming weeks. The canal is expected to be 6 metres in depth when it’s filled to capacity later this month.
At full operation, boats and other water transport will be able to work their way from the original mouth of the Creek all the way through the city and back out at what was once Jumeirah Beach Park.
Dubai Water Canal will also include Marasi Business Bay, a new yacht club and parkland development in Business Bay.
The low rise development will include a yacht club with 1,250 berths and an RTA marina station, a park area with amphitheatre, five palm tree-lined marinas and a 12km promenade. The project is also the first development to feature ‘water homes’.
