Private sector workers in the UAE will get a paid holiday on Sunday December 2 to celebrate the 41st National Day.

The holiday was confirmed in a circular issued on Thursday by Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour.

Separately, it was announced that workers for Federal ministries and entities will be off work on both Sunday December 2 and Monday December 3.

According to a circular issued by Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and chairman of the Federal Government Human Resources Authority, government workers will return to work on Tuesday December 4.

National Day is celebrated on December 2 each year to mark the UAE’s formal independence from the UK and the eventual unification of the seven emirates in 1971.

On December 2 1971, all emirates except Ras Al Khaimah united as a country at the suggestion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, and his other brothers, the rulers of other emirates. Ras Al Khaimah joined the union later.
