The UAE’s Labour Ministry has announced that private sector workers will be given Saturday off as a paid holiday to mark Isra and Miraj.
The announcement was made by Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, in comments published by news agency WAM on Monday.
The Isra and Miraj are the two parts of a Night Journey that, according to Islamic tradition, the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (PBUH) took during a single night around the year 621.
In a separate statement, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources said that public sector workers will not get a paid holiday as “this event falls on an official holiday and therefore shall not be transferred or compensated”.
Ghobash also congratulated the UAE government, its citizens and residents on this holy occasion, praying for further progress and prosperity in the UAE, the Arab and Islamic countries.
