Residents in Dubai must endure another week of 24-hour lockdown as the city announces an extension of the National Sterilisation Programme for a further week, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement.
The programme which began on April 4 is aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19.
“The Supreme Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management in Dubai announces the extension of the 24-hour National Sterilisation Programme for a further week, in light of the success achieved by the initiative, in place since April 4, in controlling the spread of Covid-19 in Dubai,” the DMO statement said.
A 24-hour lockdown means residents will have to continue quarantining at home, and must apply for a movement permit with Dubai Police if they wish to leave their houses to shop for groceries.
The permit will only be issued once every three days, while permits to withdraw cash from an ATM will be issued once every five days.
Those who wish to seek medical attention must apply under the medical emergency category.
Coronavirus cases in the UAE has risen to 5,825 with 35 deaths as of Friday morning.
