Hollywood movie icon Brad Pitt made an appearance at the Silverstone circuit during the British Grand Prix weekend, where he was seen in costume as an F1 driver for an upcoming movie.
Pitt, along with his co-star Damson Idris, donned white and black racing suits as they mingled among real Formula 1 drivers on the grid on Sunday.
The yet-to-be-titled film is being produced in collaboration with Apple and benefits from the involvement of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who is helping to bring the project to life.
Pitt, 59, expressed his excitement about the role, stating to Sky Sports, “I’m a little giddy right now. It’s great to be here…[the] time of my life.”
Brad Pitt films at British Grand Prix weekend
In the movie, Pitt portrays a veteran driver who returns to the grid after a 30-year absence, seeking to aid his struggling former team.
With special access to racetracks and drivers through F1, the film aims to provide an authentic portrayal of the sport.
Pitt revealed that F1 experts have been involved in the production to ensure accuracy, and Hamilton, serving as both a producer and a driver, is committed to showcasing the true essence of Formula 1.
Filming took place throughout the British Grand Prix weekend, with scenes shot on the track during breaks in the actual racing.
The fictional APXGP team, represented by Pitt and Idris, had its own garage between the Mercedes and Ferrari pits, with the actors driving modified Formula 2 cars.
Max Verstappen “can’t be bothered”
While Pitt’s presence garnered attention and admiration from some F1 drivers, Max Verstappen remained unfazed, expressing his lack of interest in the film project.
“I think they’re going to use some shots of everybody, in terms of onboard cameras and stuff,” he said. “I completely can’t be bothered with this. In the end, a film is always made to create a little bit of a show in it. Because yes, of course, it won’t all be real. But I think it’s all fine. I’m actually not that much into it.”
However, his viewpoint was not shared by many of his colleagues, with Lewis Hamilton praising the experience as the “best drivers’ briefing we’ve ever had,” and George Russell describing Pitt as a down-to-earth and humorous individual.
As the filming progresses, Brad Pitt is expected to make regular appearances at various Grand Prix events throughout the F1 season.
