Jane Norman hits the catwalk running

UK fashion brand capitalises on Facebook’s firm following in the UAE with launch of its search for models.

UK fashion retailer Jane Norman, part of MAF Fashion at Majid Al Futtaim Group, is hunting for Dubai’s catwalk stars.

The brand has launched a competition to discover new models, with winners having the chance to appear at an exclusive show on August 21 and clinch a much sought after modelling contract.

Jane Norman, which currently has stores at Mall of the Emirates and Deira City Centre, is on the lookout for 10 female models and two male models aged fifteen years and above in the Jane Norman Catwalk Star Search 2008 competition.

“Jane Norman has created this exciting hunt which provides an opportunity to aspiring models to become famous overnight. This trendy and enigmatic brand has been designed to inspire young women who are image conscious and through the Catwalk Star Search contest, Jane Norman is giving a chance to turn dreams into reality,” said Jeremy Johnston, CEO, MAF Fashion said.

The company has taken advantage of the popularity of social networking website Facebook, on which entrants can join the Jane Norman Model Me group and upload an image with their contact details and can encourage their friends to send an SMS vote for them.

Female competition winners will be given a Jane Norman wardrobe, while male winner’s clothes will be provided by the über-trendy Fat Face label.

Competition entrants will be judged by Sacha Plumbridge and Stephanie Smedley from City 7’s makeover programme Make Me a Model and Radio One DJs Schooly and Selena. The closing date for entry to the competition is August 18. No previous modelling experience is needed, but applicants should make sure they are available on August 21, according to the regulations.
