Sony’s first high-def camcorder and Olympus’ first wide 18x optical zoom camera are something to look out for, but this month’s biggest newcomer is certainly the PS3.

Kodak Easyshare V610

The Kodak Easyshare V610 Dual Lens Digital Camera was named “Best of Innovations 2007” award winner in the Digital Imaging category. It is the world’s smallest 10X (38 – 380 mm) optical zoom camera, at less than an inch thick. Using innovative Kodak Retina dual lens technology, the sleek, pocket size V610 camera precisely combines two Schneider- Kreuznach C- Variogon all-glass, non-protruding prism lenses for exceptional clarity and sharpness. The feature-packed 6-megapixel easyshare V610 Camera, with anti-blur technology, is one of the first digital cameras to incorporate bluethooth wireless technology, making it easier to instantly share pictures with people nearby. Easyshare V610 camera owners can effortlessly send their pictures to other bluethooth technology enabled devices up to 30 feet away, such as mobile phones, PDAs, computers and Kodak Picture Kiosks. The camera comes with a free 1 GB card.

Kodak PP500 home printer

Designed to read images from CDs, computer memory sticks, camera memory cards or mobile phones via Bluetooth technology, Photo Kiosks are the latest development in Kodak’s ongoing digital services expansion programme for the region.

Kodak Photo Kiosks will be available in two models: the G4, which prints in 8 seconds, and the value model GS, which takes 11 seconds. Both use Kodak Perfect Touch technology – an advanced software photo-editing system – and print on high-quality, waterproof, Xtralife paper. Customers will pay an average of AED1.5 (US$0.4) per print, and the option to print in various sizes is also available.

Olympus

SP-550 Ultra Zoom

Featuring the world’s first wide 18x optical zoom, this compact camera has been available since last month.

The SP-550 UZ features a 18x wide optical zoom (equivalent to 28-504mm on a 35mm camera) and 1:2.8 4.5 dual image stabilization (it has both optical & digital image stabilizers). The camera boasts a 7.1 Megapixels resolution and super macro mode (from as close as 1cm). It further includes an internal memory plus xD-picture card slot, bright capture technology for better night and low light photography, slide-show function and self-timer, and is supplied with Olympus Master software and a USB cable.

The Olympus SP-550 Ultra Zoom is available at dealers and Duty Free Shops, or through Al Sayegh Brothers Imaging, Dubai, the Olympus distributors for the UAE, Qatar and Iraq.

Sony high definition (HD) Disc-based Handycam HDR-UX1

Sony introduced the world’s first high definition (HD) Disc-based Handycam HDR-UX1 and HD hard disk-based Handycam HDR-SR1. HD offers exceptional clarity, superior colour reproduction, matchless details, enhanced sound and lower power consumption. Sony’s High Definition format has 1,080 effective scanning lines – offering double the quality and clarity of 576 effective scanning lines (PAL) or 480 effective scanning lines (NTSC) analogue resolution. This superior resolution is the reason why HD images are so rich in crisp details, so sharp and so close to reality. With such resolution, even the smallest details can be recorded and displayed, reproducing every sensibility of the image from the most delicate contours to the real texture of objects.

Sony Playstation 3

Playstation3 launched in the UAE on 22nd March. An expected one million PS3 units are available during the initial launch period across the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Australasia.

Sony Gulf also announced a line-up of over 30 game titles for PS3, including titles such as Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Genji: Days of the Blade and Ridge Racer 7.

Concurrent with the UAE launch, a new system update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued.

The PS3 features include a cell broadband engine, a built-in blu-ray disc drive for high-definition gaming, movies and entertainment and 1080p high-definition support for unbeatable picture and sound quality. The console has further been upgraded with increased motion- sensitive sixaxis wireless controller compatibility and built-in hard disk drive storage space for movies, music, games and downloads. Additional features include increased broadband connectivity for easy access to the playstation network and a world of online entertainment – from multiplayer social gaming to community and chat features – besides downloadable multimedia content and interconnectivity with PSP (PlayStationPortable), using a wireless internet connection, so the PSP can locate and access files stored on the PS3 system’s hard drive.

Bang & Olufsen Earset 2

EarSet 2 from Bang & Olufsen contains audio technology that has the power to banish environmental noise, so you can be heard loud and clear.

EarSet 2’s transmission quality is achieved by two omni-directional microphones. The microphones filter and suppress wind noise, giving you the best voice transmission possible.

The loudspeaker in EarSet 2 is a fully-fledged closed cabinet loudspeaker unit in miniature. Supported by air vents and a bass port together with an ergonomic design, the loudspeaker unit has a frequency response that gives a high degree of tonal precision.

The Earset 2 technology is based on bluethooth, with a transmission range of up to 10 metres. Batteries last about 4 hours talking, or 100 hours standby, with a charging time of 3 hours.

The earphones are made out of aluminum and plastic, at a weight of 22 grams.
