Emirates has announced plans to step up its number of flights as the airline prepares for more travellers to take to the skies during Eid al-Fitr.

The airline will offer more flights across seven cities in the GCC and Middle East, in addition to increasing the amount of seating it can offer, deploying both A380s and Boeing 777s between April 28 and May 8.

In Saudi Arabia, Emirates will add two extra flights on May 2 and May 8 for Riyadh, while in Jeddah the airline will add five additional flights served by its Boeing 777 flight and upgrade one flight to an A380. Medina will see four additional flights, and travellers from Dammam will have the option for one extra flight on April 28.

Emirates expects customers from the Kingdom to be heading to Dubai for Eid al-Fitr celebrations, along with traveling on to other destinations including the Maldives, Paris, and Los Angeles.

Last week, the UAE Cabinet approved a week-long Eid al-Fitr holiday for all federal government entities operating across the country, with holidays for the public sector starting from Saturday, 30 April through Friday, 6 May, 2022.

For all private sector workers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced that the period from 29th Ramadan through 3rd Shawwal 1443 will be a paid Eid holiday for all private sector workers. Those dates are anticipated to translate to the period between Saturday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 4.

On Tuesday, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which is the educational quality assurance and regulatory authority of the Government of Dubai, said that schools would be closed for the entire week starting Monday, 2 May to Friday, 6 May to mark Eid al-Fitr.

This translates to a nine-day school holiday for Eid al-Fitr, which will begin on the weekend, Saturday, 30 April, with schools set to open again on Monday, May 9.

The International Astronomical Centre said that 2 May will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in most countries, as the crescent of Shawwal 1443 AH is likely to be seen on Saturday, 30 April, corresponding to 29 Ramadan.

The director of the centre, Muhammad Shawkat Odeh, noted that in countries that began Ramadan on Sunday, 3 April, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Morocco and Ghana, the crescent of Shawwal will be seen on Sunday, 1st May.
