UAE-based airlines Etihad Airways and Emirates on Sunday denied a report in a UK newspaper that the two companies may merge. The Sunday Times reported that discussions have taken place between the Abu Dhabi national carrier and Dubai’s standard bearer, but both airlines have rubbished the article. In a written statement to Arabian Business, Etihad said: “We can categorically state that there are no talks – either formal or informal – about any possible M&A (merger and acquisition) activity between Etihad Airways and Emirates.”
Emirates also confirmed “there are no merger talks taking place between Emirates and Etihad”. “We have no knowledge of the federal government or Abu Dhabi, or another airline taking a stake in Emirates,” the airline stated.
