Qatar sets up complaints hotline for workers

Ministry of Labour initiative to help staff laid off unfairly by companies.

Qatar has set up a hotline (Qatar 4406346) for workers to lodge complaints in the event of their employers laying them off in the wake of the global financial turbulence.

The Ministry of Labour measure comes despite the fact that officials claim there have so far been no complaints against any company either on retrenching workers or serving lay-off notices due to the recession pressure, Qatar daily The Peninsula reported on Monday.

The Ministry has also warned that companies delaying salary payments for more than two months will be taken to task.

Officials also reminded companies that they are required to pick up their overseas workers when they arrive at the Doha International Airport.
