Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is geared to ferry more than 24000 students in the emirates’ 440-strong school bus fleet for the start of new school term equipped with enhanced security and emergency guidelines.
Enhanced security measures for emergency situations, such as GPS systems for bus tracking and boarding are in place.
Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and the emirates’ RTA said they hope the safety measures will encourage more students to take the bus in the context of reducing traffic during rush hours as it fits with their strategic objectives aimed at bringing a positive impact on the community and increase Dubai’s “happiness score.”
Schools across the country will resume officially on August 29.
“DTC is committed to keeping pace with the continuous research and development programmes to equip its school buses fleet with cutting-edge technologies and systems including surveillance cameras and sensors to ensure that no student is left behind on any bus,” state news agency WAM reported.
“Buses are also fitted with emergency notification systems synchronised with the control centre, students and GPS bus tracking systems for bus boarding and disembarkation locations of students, and an identification system using RFID technology. Buses are also fitted with a system for self-extinguishing engine fires compatible with the highest local and international standards of quality and safety.”
Drivers have also been trained in first aid and responsible driving practices.
In total, 24000 students are registered for school transport in the emirates.
Schools and parents can register students and update their information on DTC’s website and via the “DTC School Bus” app.
