If you want an elegant sedan but don’t want to lose the edge of a sports coupe, we reckon Maserati’s Quattroporte GTS GranLusso is one of your best bets.
Then again, how can we say no to anything Italian? They just know their cars, food, clothes… shall we go on?
Through its twin-turbo V8, the brand’s flagship model reaches 100km/h in 4.7 seconds and achieves a 310km/h top speed – making it the fastest and most powerful four door of its kind – and it feels pretty good while doing so too.
But elements such as its consumption-performance ratio also makes this beauty an everyday ride.
Let’s start with the exterior, first, however. The 2017 Quattroporte boasts a new bumper design featuring a matte black front profile, rear extractor and side skirts – staying true to its slick Italian identity. Its sharper, more pointed and more imposing.
You might find a better deal for a luxury sports sedan in its German competitors, but no one does design like the Italians. The Quattroporte (yes, they also got away with calling a car ‘four door’) features its signature three-dimensional grille, this time with newly adopted chrome vertical ribs.
But you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style when it comes to this Maserati, known for its large cabin. The race-bred luxury sedan feels grand and spacious, making it one of the most comfortable we’ve tried – and the most stylish.
While the GranLusso we tried features a class mix of white exterior and brown premium leather interior, the model also comes in none other than Ermenegildo Zegna patented silk fabric. It doesn’t get much more luxurious than this, despite minor changes that could be enhanced, such as the instrument-cluster display screen, which is not our favourite and looks rather, dare we say, cheap.
But back to the leather; it is complimented by open pore Radica wood on the dashboard and the leather steering wheel with wooden insert. It goes without saying that the Quattroporte offers a sportier option than its competitors, which lack the same edge in the luxury-sedan segment. While it is quite the large sedan (measuring 207.2 inches long), its responses are rather quick for its size.
So at a starting price of $105,907 (AED389,000), the 2017 Quattroporte is undoubtedly worth it in our books.
