The Road & Transports Authority (RTA) has announced the closure of certain roads in Jumeirah on Sunday, due to the 23rd Dubai Marathon.

The marathon, which is set to take place on January 7, will result in temporary road closures from 6AM until 1PM.

The RTA advises residents and motorists to plan their trips accordingly and leave early to ensure they reach their destinations on time.

Dubai Marathon 2024: All you need to know

The marathon route spans a distance of 42.195 kilometres (26.2 miles) and will commence on Umm Suqeim Road near the Madinat Jumeirah.

From there, the runners will turn left onto the left-hand side of the carriageway, proceeding along Al Sufouh.

They will pass Dubai College Junction, the entrance to Palm Island, and the entrance to Dubai Media City on the left.

At the traffic lights of The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi, the runners will make a U-turn before retracing their steps along Al Sufouh.

They will pass the Madinat Jumeirah and continue on to Jumeirah Beach Road, running past the iconic Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel on the left.

The runners will continue along the left carriageway of Jumeirah Beach Road, heading towards the bridge at the Creek.

Just before reaching the Al Mehemal Road junction, they will make a U-turn and head back towards the Madinat Jumeirah junction.

This loop section will be repeated once more. After completing the second lap of the Jumeirah Beach Road section, the runners will turn left after the Burj Al Arab at the Madinat Jumeirah junction.

They will then proceed along Umm Suqeim Road for 500 metres (0.3 miles) before reaching the finish line, located near the Dubai Police Academy.

This year’s Dubai Marathon holds special significance as it marks the first time the event has taken place in this area since January 2020.

Jumeirah is considered the marathon’s “home” by many Dubai-based runners. In addition to the elite marathon, the event will also feature a wheelchair marathon, a 10-kilometre (6.2-mile) road race, and a 4-kilometre (2.5-mile) fun run.

The scale of mass participation in running has not been seen in this route for the past four years.
