Blancpain has revealed a new version of its signature Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe watch, this time in a plasma gray ceramic case. The three-hand model features a deep blue dial inspired by “the depths of the sea,” according to the brand.
Its bezel comes in plasma grey ceramic bezel and blue ceramic insert housing Liquidmetal hour markers to avoid distortions. Gray plasma ceramic is produced in a way that gives colour a subtle metallic shade. The technology was used for the Bathyscaphe Chronographe Flyback Ocean Commitment which was launched in 2014.
The Blancpain Bathyscaphe diving models first appeared in the late 1950s in both men’s and women’s versions. To mark the anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms in 2013, the Bathyscaphe reappeared with a new aesthetic recalling the first versions.
The new watch’s outlines are reminiscent of the hands of their vintage watch predecessors as well as the traditional date which appears through a small window. It also sees a luminous index on the bezel to enhance readability during dives, keeping the theme faithful to the original version of the Bathyscaphe.
Each of the watch’s models have been fitted with a unidirectional bezel which can be rotated with defined clicks in a counter-clockwise direction. During dives, the large seconds hand serves as an indicator that the watch is running. The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is water-resistant to 30 bar, equivalent to 300 meters.
It is offered with two strap options including a sail canvas version.
