Top teachers in Saudi Arabia will be given luxury cars, such as BMWs, and as much as SR120,000 ($32,000) in cash, the Ministry of Education has announced.

All members of the profession, including advisors and principals, are eligible. Some winners already had been selected, the ministry said, according to Arab News.

There also would be an award for outstanding students, the ministry said, without revealing details of the prize.

The awards aimed to encourage excellence in the profession, a ministry official was quoted as saying.

“This confirms the ministry’s commitment to students and education in general,” he said, according to Arab News.

“The awarding of BMWs should be a great motivation for people working in the field.”
