Iraqi refugees flee ISIS

Tens of thousands of Iraqis have fled to Kurdistan as fighting between government forces and ISIS continues in the country’s main cities. Temporary displacement camps have been set up, but many refugees have been denied entry by Kurdish soldiers due to the high numbers. The families who have been turned away, many with very young and sometimes sick children, as well as elderly men and women, have no shelter and little water and food.

Tens of thousands of people have fled Iraq's second largest city of Mosul after it was overrun by ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) militants. Many have been temporarily housed at various IDP camps around the region including the area close to Erbil, as they hope to enter the safety of the nearby Kurdish region. (Getty Images)
