Saudi Arabia increases security at mosques, malls

Extra security patrols, more CCTV in place for the Eid Al-Fitr weekend

Following recent ISIL attacks in the country, malls in Saudi Arabia have increased security in preparation for Eid Al-Fitr celebrations, when an increase in shoppers is expected.

Arab News reported that extra security staff have been drafted in and more CCTV installed as the country’s major cities prepare for a busy weekend.

The government and private companies have already increased their security patrols, according to Basem Qattan, director of a commercial centre in Madinah and Alkhobar. He said the arrangements have been put in place in response to an increasingly tense security situation across the region.

Fireworks have been banned in some areas, including the Eastern Province where a comprehensive security detail has been put in place by several security agencies.

Extra patrols will also be in place in the morning and evening on roads leading to mosques and commercial centres.
