Etisalat has signed two memorandums of understanding with Samsung, to test and implement the company’s advanced WiMAX system and develop smart future cities in the UAE.
The first MoU aims to develop the concept of ‘Smart Future Cities,’ which will use home-based internal networks and cutting-edge technology to deliver home control systems.
The second outlines plans for a common experimental operating system between Etisalat and Samsung to test the WiMAX system.
“Etisalat has been the pioneer provider of telecommunications services in the UAE and the region, and this is only the latest step in our commitment to provide the best available services in the arena of telecommunications sector,” says Mohammed Al Qamzi, Etisalat CEO.
The agreements will improve radio transmission broadcasting, IMS system, fixing and operations centres, he added. The first experimental phase of the process is expected to take 14 weeks, while the second phase is expected to completed within 8 weeks.
A variety of applications modules, including fast access to internet data, TV broadcasting services via mobile handsets, Instant Messenger and multimedia video streaming, Push to Talk service, Push to View, and Push to Data services are amongst the first variety of applications modules.
The Smart Home experiment is seen as a good opportunity for Etisalat’s subscribers to try out and evaluate future technology in a personalised setting.
