Rapidly expanding luxury property and spa specialist, Six Senses, has unveiled a series of new projects, including new resorts and destinations, its first destination spa, and the introduction of a new residential luxury yacht brand.
The Bangkok-based company is set to open its third property in the Maldives – the Evason Lamu – in addition to its more exclusive existing luxury resorts, Soneva Gilli and Soneva Fushi.
“We want to provide a very nice five-star property with very competitive rates,” explained Marie Giuge, who was recently appointed director of sales and marketing, Indian Ocean & Middle East, Six Senses.
She said Evason Lamu, located in the South Atoll and built in “rustic chic” style, would comprise between 120 and 140 over-the-water villas, and open in the third quarter of 2008.
“Although there is huge demand for uber luxury properties in the Maldives (such as the Soneva properties), there is also great demand for something more price competitive,” Giuge added.
Six Senses will also expand its Soneva offering in the Maldives by introducing luxury accommodation on board two traditional Maldivian Dhoni boats. This Soneva Afloat concept will be rolled out by 2007.
A similar afloat product, which Giuge said offered “privacy, intimacy and the ultimate in luxury”, will be rolled out in other locations such as Oman, where Six Senses’ Evason Zighy Bay property will open in February.
“We will adapt the concept according to the destination; so we may use Arabian dhows in Oman,” Giuge said.
Additional projects in the Middle East include operating the spa at the new Sharq Village & Spa property in Doha, managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and due to open next month.
Further afield, Six Senses will open its first destination spa, Six Senses Erawan on the island of Naha, Thailand, later next year, while the company is eyeing sites for new properties in South East Asia, South America and Europe.
“We are also planning to do something in Madagascar and Mozambique – both places where we can offer our guests something different,” added Giuge.
