Heavy rain in the UAE has caused flooding and led to safety warnings for motorists.

Videos shared by the UAE’s National Centre of Metorology showed the after effects of rainfall with waterfalls, roads covered in water and rivers rapidly forming on previously dried out land.
The NCM called on motorists to avoid driving unless absolutely necessary and to drive with caution, staying alert to the safety of all road users. .
In an official national weather alert the NCM said: “Precaution should be taken during rainfall over some Eastern and Northern areas. Please stay away from areas of flash flooding and accumulated rain”
UAE weather warning
The UAE Ministry of Interior also published a weather warning.
On Twitter it said: “Due to the exposure of several areas in the country to fluctuations in weather conditions accompanied by heavy rains and winds, please take care and caution while driving the vehicle and avoid valleys and places where water flows.”
The Ministry of Interior also released a checklist of safety warnings. It advised motorists to:
- Make sure to listen to weather bulletins from official sources
- Follow safety advice and instructions from the concerned authorities
- Check the vehicle and validity of the lights, windshield wipers and tires
- Drive calmly and carefully
- Avoid speeding at all times
- Stay away from the floodplain, valleys and watershed

Weather forecasters said they expected more rain in parts of the UAE over the weekend.
Fujairah and Dibba are expected to remain cloudy on Sunday, January 8, and will most likely see rains until noon.
Al Ain is also expected to see moderate rain. Temperatures could drop significantly, reaching as low as 4°C at the weekend.
