An industry-wide initiative aimed at improving the welfare of site workers has got underway in Dubai.
Construction industry charity, The Lighthouse Club, has officially launched its ‘Responsible Employers Scheme’, with the backing of Construction Week.
“The scheme is broadly aimed at employers of construction workers but will be supported by related organisations such as developers and consultants,” said Jeremy Hoare, deputy chairman, Dubai Lighthouse Club.
The scheme requires participating companies to sign-up to a 10-point charter covering various aspects of their workers’ welfare, such as the provision of clean, comfortable and safe accommodation, adequate medical facilities, safe transportation, and adequate and nutritious food and water.
