Dubai fraudster has jail sentence slashed

A Filipino accountant, who stole almost AED200,000, has had his jail sentence cut from five years to one, according to a report in The National.

The 39-year-old is reported to have stolen AED193,089 through 20 fraudulent transactions between August 2012 and October 2013.

It said his duties at the Dubai company included issuing receipts, cashing cheques and depositing company funds.

After being convicted of forgery, using forged documents and embezzlement, he was handed a five-year sentence at the Dubai Criminal Court in April

However, after taking his case to Dubai’s Court of Appeal, this was reduced to a year.

According to the report, he was fined AED150,000 and ordered to pay back the funds he stole from the company in full.
