Schools and universities will be closed until further notice in Jeddah, as the kingdom experienced heavy rains on Monday, according to local media reports.
The Saudi Ministry of Education said that all in-person classes will remain suspended across all schools in Jeddah, Rabigh and Khulais, and have asked both teachers and students to switch to online classes.
Online classes will be carried out through the Madrasati platform for students.
The National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) had issued an alert on Sunday evening stating that the kingdom will experience moderate to heavy rain in parts of Makkah until 10AM local time on Monday.
In November, Saudi Arabia also witnessed what was titled as the worst storm ever, according to the NCM.
Heavy rains lashed across Jeddah, flooding several parts of the province and sweeping away cars and other vehicles, was the highest ever recorded rain, the Saudi National Centre for Meteorology (NCM) said.
The downpour lasted for about 8 hours – from morning 8 o’clock till about 5 in the evening – amounted to 179.7 mm in the south of the governorate, according to the center’s monitoring stations.
