Dubbed the Emirates’ rival to Netflix, the UAE streaming service has signed a deal with E-vision from e& and ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate, to acquire a majority stake – 57 percent – based on a post-money valuation of $420 million. Once the narrative for big business growth in the UAE was bring an international brand to the region and grow it here, but in recent years the Emirates has proved it can create and scale its own successes into multi-million dollar enterprises.

The latest example? The UAE’s own Starzplay Arabia – dubbed the Emirates’ Netflix rival – after it signed a deal with E-vision from e& – the artist formerly known as Etisalat and ADQ, an Abu Dhabi-based conglomerate, which will acquire a majority stake – 57 percent – based on a post-money valuation of $420 million – in the homegrown streaming service.
