2. Main contractor JV announced for Qatar Foundation football stadium
nQatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has selected the main contractor for the Qatar Foundation Stadium.
nThe contract has been awarded to a joint venture (JV) between J&P Qatar WLL, Conspel Qatar WLL, J&P-Avax SA, and J&P
3. Nakheel awards $51m contract for Nad Al Sheba villas
nDubai developer Nakheel has signed a contract worth $51m (AED188m) for the construction of 133 homes at Nad Al Sheba, its new high-end residential community, featuring 1,572 villas and a 11ha mall.
nNakheel has awarded Dubai-based Square General Contracting Co. to build the villas in the fourth and final construction package, which brings the total contract value to nearly $707m (AED2.6bn).
nThe first three packages, covering 1,439 homes, were awarded last year.
nThe announcement follows news that Nakheel is adding a 11ha mall to the master community, which is rapidly rising along Dubai’s Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.
nA construction tender for Nad Al Sheba Mall is expected to be released before the end of 2016.
4. UK firm scoops contract at Emaar’s The Tower
nBMT Fluid Mechanics has won a consultancy contract at Emaar Properties’ The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour.
nThe firm, which is a subsidiary of BMT Group, will act as the megaproject’s wind engineering consultant.
nThe latest contract was awarded by Aurecon, which was itself selected by The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour’s designer, Santiago Calatrava, as the engineer and architect of record for the project.
nHeadquartered in London with regional offices in Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, New York, and Singapore, BMT Fluid Mechanics specialises in the fields of wind engineering, architectural aerodynamics, and building physics.
nOnce completed, the skyscraper will be approximately 100m taller than Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, another Emaar project that, at 828m, holds the current world record for tallest manmade structure.
5. Khansaheb wins $105m mall expansion contract from Majid Al Futtaim
nKhansaheb has been awarded a $105m (AED387m) contract to expand and upgrade Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Ajman.
nUnder the terms of the deal, the contractor will more than double the size of the existing mall from 32,000m2 to 70,000m2.
nKhansaheb, Interserve’s construction associate business in the UAE, will also build a new 2,400-capacity car park as part of the contract.
nThe City Centre Ajman contract includes the installation of additional mechanical and electrical systems to serve the expanded mall.
nThe project will involve the creation of new walkways, food courts, offices, and a children’s entertainment venue. Khansaheb will also conduct exterior landscaping work and reconfigure the mall’s access roads.
6. Qatar’s UDC awards piling works contract for tower at The Pearl
nUnited Development Company (UDC) has awarded a contract to carry out piling works at Al Mutahidah Towers in Viva Bahriya at The Pearl.
nThe master developer of The Pearl-Qatar announced awarding the piling contract to Navayuga Engineering Company.
nThe contract includes the execution of approximately 917 piles along with the excavation and backfilling works, in preparation for the next construction phase.
nThe piling works are anticipated to take 150 days, ending in January 2017, after which the construction of the main structure will commence, reported The Peninsula.
nLocated at the beachfront precinct of Viva Bahriya at The Pearl-Qatar, the 450-apartment project is projected to be complete in Q4 2019.
7. DEWA awards contract for 3D building at MBR solar park
nDubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded Convrgnt Value Engineering the tender to design and construct the first building in the UAE to be fully printed onsite and the first 3D-printed laboratory building in the world.
nThe laboratory will be built as part of the Research & Development (R&D) centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and will conduct research on drones, and 3D-printing technology.
nThe laboratory will conduct research on drones and 3D-printing technology to support DEWA’s ongoing projects.
nIt will conduct research on the use of drones to develop the performance of photovoltaic panels to increase their efficiency, credibility, and lower their cost, as well as study and test different photovoltaic technologies.
nThe drones and 3D-printing lab includes four sub-laboratories: the Electronics Lab, the Software Lab, the Mechanical Lab, and the Prototype Lab. The project will also include an outdoor-testing facility.
8. Hill International wins Helios Towers contract in Abu Dhabi
nHill International has won a contract from Al Fouad Group to oversee the design and construction of Helios Towers in Abu Dhabi.
nThe four-year project management contract is worth aprroximately $3.8m (AED13.95m).
nThe mixed-use development entails the construction of two skyscrapers a 62-story residential tower, and a 46-story commercial office tower.
nThe project will accommodate 620 residential units, approximately 53,000m2 of office space, 5,600m2 of retail space, and parking for nearly 1,800 vehicles.
nIt will feature amenities such as swimming pools, a health club and beauty spa, a gymnasium, and a residents club, as well as direct beach access.
9. India’s L&T bags Saudi Electricity cable contract
nIndian contractor Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a major contract from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for building a 132 kV double circuit transmission line besides a 132 kV cabling in the Rafah, Arar, and Sakaka areas of the kingdom.
nThe contract was awarded to L&T’s power transmission and distribution business unit by the National Grid Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of SEC, said a statement from the Indian group.
nL&T has bagged engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders worth $97m in the international markets including the Saudi contract, it stated.
nSEC, the largest power producer in the kingdom, had recently allocated $34m (SAR129m) for setting up new power plants, converter stations and electricity transmission networks in bid to boost the kingdom’s power infrastructure.
10. Thales bags Saudi railway maintenance contract
nGlobal technology company Thales has been awarded a one-year renewable maintenance contract for the 2,400 km lines – mineral and passenger – of the North South Railway project, crossing Saudi Arabia.
nThe contract win demonstrates the trust relationship built with Saudi Railway Company over years of collaboration to deploy the complete transportation systems on the line.
nThe maintenance contract includes the corrective activities as well as predictive maintenance, which will enable rail operators to fix assets before they fail. Asset performance will be constantly improved for a better service and an optimised cost of the infrastructure. This maintenance contract is extendable in the coming years.
nThe North-South Railway (NSR) project in Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest railway construction and the longest route to adopt the European signaling system (ETCS level 2).
