Dubai Police has installed 2,000 road cameras installed across the city.
The purpose-built cameras will work in conjunction with speed radars already installed across the emirate, reported Emirates 24/7.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Police Traffic Department, said cameras could pick out drivers who speed, use the hard shoulder or jump red lights, said the report.
The cameras were installed as part of the “We Are All Police” initiative.
They were designed to adjust to road hazards around the clock, he said.
More than 250 traffic accidents were recorded in the emirate on the first day of Ramadan, Dubai Police had previously revealed.
Al Mazroui said driver were deliberately disobeying road rules in absence of traffic control devices or police officers.
A technical team has been appointed to analyse video recordings that will provide evidence to hold offenders accountable.
These cameras will further support Dubai Police’s smart patrol initiative, including 12 state-of-the-art cameras that can take photos with 360-degree visualisation.
