Several new source countries for domestic workers are being added by Saudi Arabia after the total number of recruitment contracts increased last year.

According to the Musaned platform of the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, which manages the recruitment of domestic workers, the kingdom saw an increase of more than 15 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the year-earlier period.

Saudi Arabia said it is using Musaned to add several new countries for the recruitment of workers in 2022.

Musaned data indicated that recruitment contracts totalled 65,000 in October, rising in November to more than 69,000 contracts, while in December they exceeded 76,000 contracts.

It also showed that Bangladesh topped the list of countries with the highest domestic workers recruitment contracts during December with more than 12,000 contracts, followed by Pakistan and India.

In October and November, the Philippines topped the list with 13,000 recruitment contracts, while Bangladesh, Egypt and Uganda were also key markets for Saudi Arabia.

Musaned aims to govern, automate and facilitate the procedures of the recruitment of domestic workers and increase the level of protection of rights of all parties by managing the contracting process between individuals and the recruitment offices.
