Almost all private companies in the UAE have complied with the three month-long midday break work ban, a top labour official said on Monday.
Mohsen Ali, director, Inspection Department, Ministry of Labour, said 99.79 percent of firms had committed to the resolution from June 15 up to end of August.
The Ministry of Labour bans outdoor activities under direct sun light from 12.30-3pm from June 15 until September 15.
He said in comments published by state news agency WAM that inspectors had carried out 68,203 visits to work sites to ensure employers were obeying the rule.
According to Ali, inspectors found that only 102 companies out of a total of 53,990 inspected had violated the ban.
“The high percentage of compliance underlines the level of awareness among employers about the importance of the resolution and its effectiveness in protecting workers for the eight running year,” he said.
The ministry previously said it is planning to undertake 20,000 field awareness visits along with 60,000 inspection visits during the summer.
Any employer found in violation of the rules will be penalised AED15,000 for each breach.
In the event of recurring violations, the inspectors will consider re-classifying the company which could make it more difficult to employ labourers.
