Dubai has urged the public to report any instances of price hikes in the emirate, following recent action taken against a wholesaler.
The move comes following Dubai Economy’s action against a wholesaler in the emirate who was found to have increased the price of onions “unreasonably”.
The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) – a sector within Dubai Economy – issued a violation notice over the incident, after officials had carried out an inspection on the foot of consumer complaints.

The wholesaler had claimed that he had purchased the onions at a high price, but the CCCP team verified the selling price from the main supplier and found the wholesaler’s claim invalid.
Dubai Economy said all local markets are have adequate supplies, and that it is has managed to find alternative source markets to ensure consumers continue to get their needs at fair prices.
In a tweet published on Saturday, Dubai Economy encouraged the public to report any rise in prices on 600545555 or through the mobile app ‘Dubai Consumer’.
