Saudi Arabia’s National Committee for hajj and umrah estimates a 15 percent year-on-year increase in the number of pilgrims in 2010.
Just under 3.8 million pilgrims are expected to travel to Makkah for this year’s umrah and hajj, official figures reveal.
Despite swine flu fears the number of pilgrims grew by 8.93 percent in 2009 to 3.3 million people.
“We have high hopes for 2010,” said Omar Boujlid, general manager of Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Hajar Tower Makkah. “Following the global market stagnation observed in 2009, this year we have so far witnessed strong demand.”
Boujlid said the hotel has added a further 129 rooms to bring its capacity to 412 to meet the additional demand.
“We’re going to reach our full room capacity of 800 rooms by August, just in time for the holy month of Ramadan. Two new restaurants, an executive lounge and a business centre are in the works to complete our unique customer experience proposition,” he added.
The Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Hajar Tower Makkah, part of the Abraj Al Bait complex, was inaugurated in November 2009.
