A Qatar court has sentenced an Indian Muslim to 40 lashes and ordered the suspension of his driving licence for two months for consuming liquor and driving under the influence of alcohol, it was reported.
The accused was captured by Al Fazaa patrols in Shabiyat Khalifa while he was parking his vehicle, Gulf Times reported.
He was found under the influence of alcohol and police also found a half-empty bottle of liquor in the car.
According to the Public Prosecution, the accused had consumed liquor and also confessed during interrogation that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, the English daily reported.
The accused, however, later denied that he had driven the vehicle while being drunk.
The claim was rejected by the court.
