Instant messaging platform WhatsApp will no longer run on iOS 8 operating system, and will require iOS 9, according to the Facebook-owned company.
Users whose WhatsApp is active on iOS 8 will no longer be able to create new accounts or verify existing accounts, and will only be able to use the messaging app until February 1, 2020.
“For the best experience, we recommend you use the latest version of iOS available for your phone. Please visit the Apple Support website to learn how to update your iPhone’s software,” reads a statement on WhatsApp’s website.
It added that it will not be able to provide support for devices using modified versions of iPhone’s operating system.
“We don’t explicitly restrict the use of jailbroken or unlocked devices. However, because these modifications might affect the functionality of your device, we can’t provide support for devices using modified versions of the iPhone’s operating system,” the statement said.
