Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has unveiled its roadmap for generative artificial intelligence (AI) and launched a framework to integrate Microsoft Copilot across its operations and services as it enters 2025.

The announcement came during an event presided over by DEWA’s Managing Director and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, with Executive Vice President of Innovation and The Future, Marwan Bin Haidar, and senior management in attendance.

“At DEWA, we anticipate and shape the future, in line with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, by adopting innovative digital solutions that enhance the UAE’s competitiveness, ensure rapid responses to global changes and open new horizons for sustainable growth in the energy and water sectors,” Al Tayer said, according to a statement by the Dubai Media Office (DMO).

The initiative aligns with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to maintain pace with global technological innovations.

DEWA began its AI journey in 2017 and was amongst the first utilities worldwide to implement Microsoft’s Copilot. The organisation has integrated ChatGPT to enhance its services through its virtual employee, Rammas.

The generative AI implementation now spans multiple areas including ‘Rammas for You’, ‘Rammas for Work’, information security, SAP systems, employee digital experience, DEWA’s Evaluation Centre, human resources services, security policies, financial data, customer eServices portal, IT Support Office services, governance and compliance procedures, future insights platforms, Power BI and LinkedIn Learning.
