du telco launches prepaid fixed landline card

Prepaid card can be used to call up to 190 destinations across the world.

du has launched a prepaid fixed landline service in the UAE, the telecom service provider announced on Wednesday.The Homephone Recharge service offers calls from one fils per second from any home landline in the UAE, regardless of the provider.

To activate the prepaid service, subscribers are required to call 800135 from a home landline and once activated the user immediately gets AED5 instant free credit. The cardholder must then dial the prefix 08888 before the number they wish to call and they can then use up the prepaid amount on the card they have purchased.

The cards come in denominations of AED 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 and can be bought from any du shop, kiosk or authorised dealer.

The cards can be used to call up to 190 destinations and rates start from one fils per second during the night daily, including Friday from 9pm to 9am, three fils per second during the day from 9am to 9pm and 1.5 fils per second on Friday from 9am to 9pm.

Du is 39.5 percent owned by the UAE Federal Government, 19.75 percent by Mubadala Development Company, 19.5 percent by Emirates Communications and Technology Company LLC and the remaining stake by public shareholders.

It is listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) and trades under the name du and the latest figures from 2008 show that du currently has three million customers in the UAE.
