A new smartphone app designed to simplify the travel experience of Muslims has been launched.
With its food spotting feature, the HalalTrip app allows users to share and rate Halal food across the world. The app has city guides and will soon include a hotel-booking feature.
The HalalTrip app, with an English and Arabic interface, also gives prayer times and indicates the direction of Makkah. The in-flight prayer time calculator also allows users to work out prayer times and directions instantly while on board a plane.
According to CrescentRating, the sister company of HalalTrip, the Halal tourism sector was worth $140 billion in 2013. This figure is expected to reach $192 billion by 2020.
Over the last 12 months, CrescentRating has seen a surge in restaurants across the world wanting to certify their food as Halal. Its restaurant rating, launched just two months ago has now more than 50 rated restaurants across the world, including food places in Peru, Vietnam, Taiwan, Belgium, USA and Austria.
Fazal Bahardeen, CEO of HalalTrip, online travel agents for Halal travel, said the app has been launched in direct response to the global trend and will be a huge help for tourists who are planning to travel to any destination.
“We want to offer a complete travel experience with the help of the app. The app will also help users locate and share new Halal food spots in the cities they are residing,” Bahardeen said.
“We want to make it easier and more fun for people to plan trips, and discover very important things that influence their travelling decisions such as places to eat along their journey. They can then share this with their network and other travellers,” he added.
The free app is available for both iPhone/iPad & Android smartphones and can be downloaded by searching for ‘HalalTrip’ in the App Store/Google Play.
